World renowned contemporary philosopher, Bernard-Henri Levy will speak on the legacy of Emmanuel Levinas at New York University on Tuesday evening, May 9th at 6:30 PM. The event is under the joint auspices of the New York Consulate Generals of France and Israel. In the spirit of their ongoing friendship, the Consulates are joining to present the profound ethical message of Emmanuel Levinas, widely regarded as the philosopher who most advanced the priority of ethical responsibility within philosophical discourse. The event is taking place in the context of the Levinas centennial titled “A Century with Levinas” which began with inaugural events in Paris and Jerusalem and will be including conferences throughout the world.

Bernard-Henri Levy, author of American Vertigo, has long spoken of Levinas’ profound influence on him and on other ethical thinkers of our day. The event is hosted by New York University’s Center for French Civilization and Culture, whose Director, Tom Bishop, will be providing introductory remarks. It is intended that Bernard-Henri Levy’s delivery of this message of ethical responsibility will be a source of insight and lasting inspiration to all those in attendance. The event is free and all are welcome, subject to seating availability.
